- Hi Sandi,
When I log onto the TrystMag site I am told that I have three unread messages in my InBox. Today I also received two notices that there were messages waiting for me but I do not see them in the InBox at all. I am puzzled as this has not occurred in the past.

- Hello. Awhile back we questioned an\about sending out emails and people not being sincere enough to reply back to our responses. We since we renewed our membership again, we have responded to numerous adds again. Some have responded back and others have read our email responses but have not responded back. Our question is to what is our recourse of action. We realize we may not be everyones match but being ignored is inconsiderate. We deleted recently several emails that were not read and a couple that were read but no responses back.. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I understand e-mail being deleted if they are over 60 days, does recent incoming e-mail get deleted?... and because it is an outgoing e-mail address... can the mailbox not receive incoming e-mail?

- Don't like the new mail system. Each time you open the mail you are docked a buck, even if you have already read it. Have also taken away some of the searches for bronze members.
- If you check my out box you will see that I have several emails sent out and NOT a single reply to any of them. some of them even a month old. This is totally unacceptable. I at least wold respect some kind of response.

Been supporters of both the magazine and the website since 94' Not sure how everyone else feels about the new email system but we think it sucks....not getting anywhere near the mail we used to get...once we reply we don't hear from bronze members again...we originally signed up for a DIRECT email ad and subsequently met lots of people...since the new system started we can't seem to hook up with anyone who replies....do they have to pay to get our reply??? Bottom line is the new system just isn't working for us...we would much rather pay a higher fee if required than be subject to "supervised" email...Don't like the new system...the sooner it goes back the better...cheers and have a great day...D&L

Oh well, I guess Tryst is just like all the other 'matching' site now, another shameless way to get more traffic.............I thought our registration fees being paid would dictate NOT logging in every time to get our emails?? Off to Ontario Couples - I guess!
Please make it an OPTION if you are a gold member to have a choice whether or not we receive direct emails or not. Something to think about.

- I don't believe your statement that emails were being diverted as I have had no problems getting any emails. I now find you are trying to get members that are free to start paying for this service. You do give SandiBucks but the system does not allow any contact to arrange a get together. I know I have generated magazine sales for you since I've got responses and now you restrict me meeting with people. I want my mail to come to my email address on file not to remain on your website email.
- Hi Sandi, we are Bronze members and a happily married couple looking for another couple to swing with. Our ad CLEARLY states we are a couple ONLY looking for another couples and that we are NOT looking for single males BUT 1/2 of the replies we get are from single males trying to convince us that if we were REAL swingers we should meet them even though we clearly state we are not looking for singles (some are pretty nasty when we turn them down). What can we do?, it is really turning my wife off the whole lifestyle.

You have a GREAT web site but a small problem with us as bronze members in that we've received a number of replies to our ad but now cant answer them as we're only allowed a few replies to answer to.
thats ok by us but must affect those who have replied to our ad but get nothing back, not even a thanks-but-no-thanks reply
For us, sending off a reply to an add and never hearing anything back is VERY annoying so we try and do our best to reply to EVERY reply that comes in to our ad.
but (sob) cant do that when your site wont allow us to send even that thanks-but-no-thanks reply.
other than joining your web site as a paid for member, any suggestions?

I updated our add when allowed and received our 5 Sandibucks. When I read 5 replys in my inbox to my add, I could not reply to them as I had no Sandibucks left. Are the replies to adds not free once you have read them? Why then can I not respond to these adds which I had read previously. Waiting another week does not seem fair (to all parties involved) as it will take 10 Sandibucks to read and reply to those adds and others are sure to pile up. I hope I did not miss documentation which explains this on your site but would sure like an answer on this so we can begin meeting people.

When i push the reply button it takes me to a section to attach a photo, I do not want to attach a photo on the site. I would like to be discreet not show the world who I am.

That is because you have 9 messages in you InBox... as a free member you are only able to see 5 .... first you must reply to an ad before you can delete it so you can see the other messages.... paid members of course have full access to all of the Emails in their mail box.... Sandi

Most likely because as a bronze member you can only access 5 Emails in your InBox at any one time. In order to view more you either have to upgrade your membership to Gold or Silver or reply to the current InBox messages and then delete them.... Sandi

The same message gets sent for both your InBox and your OutBox.... Emails in both get deleted after 60 days...I have no way of checking which box it was... since the message was deleted.. Sandi

Your best bet would be send them another reply ( as a Silver member you have unlimited access to Emails) and remind them you are still waiting on a reply.... The user can not delete the response until they reply to it BUT it seems that some members are just plain rude.... The problem is way better than it was...but to be honest I don't know how to fix it completely( aside from going to their house and whacking them on the head with a 2 x 4) ....Sandi

The only Emails that get deleted are for Bronze members and only Emails that are over 60 days old get deleted... whether they are read or not... the notification is sent from an outgoing Email address... if you reply to that Email address.... chances are you will not get a reply

Yes you get docked a buck (which I give you 5 of for free every week, so it did not really cost you anything) and it only costs once... you can read each mail as often as you like for free.... and with the new postal code/distance search the area code search became inefficient and redundant.... I'm sorry, but I have no way at all to force a member to return to my site and answer their Ad Replies. I send out a notification that they have a reply waiting but if they choose not to return and pick it up it is their choice. At least with the new system you know that they have not read it.... Sandi

Any complaints so far have been operational problems (most of my members don't seem to be able to follow instructions). The poll in the members area is 99 % positive, so it looks like it is going to stay. Not sure why you're not getting any mail. Bronze members have always been restricted to 5 replies a week, and that did not change, all that did change is they pay one of their "SandiBucks" to read your reply, but they still get 5 free each week so I'm not sure where to problem is. I think the traceability of when a user reads your reply and forcing them to reply one way or another before they can delete it from their InBox is the best thing about the new system AND not one complaint about someone not getting a reply from a reply they sent out since the new system went online, also there is nothing to stop you from putting your Email address in the body of your reply and communicating that way.... nothing has really changed except the traceability.... .... Yes, I am just like "all the other matching sites now" (Except I actually give a damn) and you know why? Because all I used to receive was complaints that my members don't respond to their Emails and it's true (30% of the Emails that I send out, specifically asking for a reply DON'T). With this new system my Members can actually login (and that is the only way the system can work) check to see if and when another member has read their reply AND send them another Email ALL FOR FREE! PLUS, that member can not delete the Emails out of their InBox unless they reply to it. I personally think that it is more than worthwhile to have to "Login" to pick up mail... you need to "Login" to Hotmail don't you... whats the difference?... Bottom line, not one complaint about members not replying to their mail since the new system went Online... It stays... Sandi

Finally....
I can finally tell you all about my BIG project which I have been working on for months now. www.Trystmag.com now has it's own internal email system. This means that when you reply to an ad on my site it doesn't have to go anywhere to reach the person who placed the ad (and possible get lost on the way). This also means that you will be able to see when this person reads your reply.
Why have we gone to this system? Well, email has become horribly unreliable, and we all need to adjust our expectations--and actions--accordingly.
In a recent test it was determined that up to 40% of email no longer reaches its destination. This is mainly due to Spam filtering, which is a long way from perfect. Hotmail, for instance, deletes from your InBox what it feels is spam after seven days from its receipt (even if you have not logged in within the last two week to check your mail). Email is broken, and probably is not fixable without some earth-shattering changes.... I'm making earth shattering changes :-) ... Sandi

Agreed, part of the "master plan" is to convert free members into paying members, it always has been and always will be BUT the main plan is to make the Email system more efficient and to make the members accountable and force them to reply to their mail.... in the past they have not! With the new TrystMail system you can track your outbound mail and tell exactly when it was read and the person you replied to can not delete that message without replying back to you.
You are allowed to contact the person that replies to your ad. BUT it cost a SandiBuck to read that reply... to reply back is free and you are more than welcome to set up a meeting through that reply.
Bottom line... it costs big $$$ to run this site (and any other quality site for that matter) and it needs to pay for itself. Yes the website generates magazine sales but not nearly enough to cover the cost of the website. Each division (magazine and website) are operated as a separate profit center and needs to support itself.
Sorry, but the new system appears to be working and I have no plans to revert back to the direct email system (or throw away the $3000.00 of direct programming costs or the couple of hundred hours of my time I have invested in it) .... Sandi (who may not always tell you what you want to hear, but will always tell you the truth!)

BIG problem, easy solution. Gold and Silver members can now block replies from from each individual membership group (Single males, Married Males joining as a single, Couples, Single Ladies... etc. I hated to do it, but it became a necessary option and one the everyone seems to like, except the males :-) ... As a Bronze Member you only have access to the first 5 Emails in you InBox at any time.... Since you have not replied to any of the 14 messages in your InBox (you need to Reply to a message before you can delete it) you do not have access to the rest of your messages. Once you reply to a message the delete option automatically appears. It costs 1 SandiBuck to read each message (you get 5 free each week when you update your ad) To reply to a message that you have already read is Free.... Sandi

What are these "SandiBuck" things?
"SandiBucks" only apply to Bronze Members (Silver and Gold Members have unlimited "SandiBucks")and they are like money. You spend them to reply to an online Ad and you spend them to read mail in your InBox. Each week when you update your ad you get a maximum of 5 more to spend as you like.... Sandi

Yes you need to reply and then delete them out of your InBox before you can see the rest of your replies Bronze members can only see a maximum of 5 replies in their InBox at any one time). Yes responding to an ad in your InBox is free (once you have read it, it costs one SandiBuck to read each reply) Yes you only get 5 SandiBucks each week when you update your ad. Once they are gone you need to wait till you can update your free ad again to get more. Of course Gold and Silver Members get unlimited SandiBucks and can reply to and read as many ad replies as they like (She says in another shameless plug to get you to upgrade your membership :-) ...Sandi

Good idea, but I went one better and added a link on the weekend so that you can now jump directly to the ad of the person that replied to you. It is even easier than cutting and pasting your ad in (you can also create a word file with your standard reply in it and just cut and paste it into your ad reply as needed) ... Sandi

It's pretty easy.... just log into my site using your supplied login and password ( the one you received when you placed your ad) .... when the blue menu appears on the left side of the page..... count down 4 items to the one that says "My Mailbox" .... click on that and read your mail..... Sandi

Yes you do have Email in your InBox 11 of them, but you need to be a Gold or Silver member to have unlimited access to all of them or you need to reply and delete the ones you are finnished with Bronze Members only have access to 5 messages at a time. You do not use Sandi Buck to re-read messages, it only costs a Sandi Buck (which you get 5 of each week for free) to read or reply the initial time..... I don't understand what you mean by being able to see the messages in your OutBox... the OutBox is only for messages you have already sent.... Sandi

Agreed, it is a big problem, but before I went to the internal Email system no one replied to there mail at all if the were not interested and they do now, so it has got better. Now at least you know when someone reads your reply, and once you have read a reply it is free to send out a "thanks but no thanks Email, or any other email for that matter. As a bronze member you can reply to or read 5 Email every week (assuming you update your ad every 7 days) The problem is, If I let Bronze members read more than 5 ads, the whole system becomes redundant because 90 % of the ads say "Don't reply here... reply to my Hotmail Account... here it is" .... a girl just can't win.... but it would be nice to break even once in a while... Yes you can reply to the ads for free once you have read them... I think it actually says that on the bottom of the page right after the text of the reply.... It actually says "Send a Reply at no cost to you" .... Sandi
